Icon2 CODE 17: VSS Problem/Question

I just bought a 92 EG dx yesterday. It's got a d15b and auto tranny ( I know but I was in a pinch and cash was low...) It's also got 174k on it.

My CEL came on and found out that I have an issue with my VSS (Code 17).
I speedo is all over the place and my tranny has a hard time shifting up...
I've notice also when I come closer to a complete stop, it will jolt and slow down...

I've read several threads and I know where and how to get to my vss. I also know how to change my tranny fuild.

I just wanted some feed back before I start messing with the tranny/vss.
I have not changed the tranny fluid yet.....

Any help is appreciated!!

are you able to go over ~30mph? i had this same issue in a dodge stratus a few years ago and it was seriously low on tranny fluid. after adding almost 2 quarts everything seemed normal.

Well, I changed the ATF in it with 3qrts. Old stuff was brown. I'm still having the same issues.

I've also noticed that I get bad gas mileage....(17mpg)
