hey all...i know a decent amount of info on somethings but im not terribly familiar with causes of things...drive a 97 ek and it recently started pinging...ive done the obvious and ran like 93 octane in it changed the oil again and ran **** through both engine and gas...and for the most part it has quit but someties i can still faintly hear it...im pretty sure i have a rattle somewhere under the hood and im guessing its a head shield of sorts but as far as the pings should i replace the valves/valve guides or what..i just need some cheap options and opinions it would be greatly appreciated...its getting up there in miles approx 107k and hopefully within a year or two a swap of some sorts will be done...but in the meantime...please help me out.thanks

retard the ignition timming till it stops,it sounds to far advanced.

 

ill give that a whirl...you dont think it has anything to do with the valves or anything? and it if helps I mainly heard it in 2nd through 4th gears

 

check ignition timing like he said. Shoudln't have to do with valves. But I would adjust them soon if you haven't recently
