Just noticed a burning plastic smell coming from under my hood on the way to work tonight. Popped hood, everything looked cool... Can someone tell me how to start diagnosing the problem?

 

one time i ran over a plastic bag and it stuck to my exhaust pipe. it still smells actually lol. check under the car.

 

look around the engine bay

 

Really? That's your advice? I'm pretty sure he said he looked in the engine bay already...

Well back on topic. I was getting a weird smell from my car too. I brought the coolant up to the max line in the overflow bottle and it stop smelling. It was pretty much empty before that. Not sure if the smell and the coolant was related but it stopped after I did that.

 

try to make sure its plastic your smelling and if your sure it is try looking around your exh. i had a splash guard get up aginst my head pipe from hitting a groundhawg before sometimes coolent can smell like that too

 

lol someone all ready ssid coolent my bad also a bad heater core smells but it is through the vents
