Default 22" vs 23" slick?

this will be for an all motor setup in a 92 si hatch, which is currently at full weiight.

current motor makes 203whp and 140tq on a dynapack, this seasons setup should make 210+.

transmission is a usdm gsr with 4.928 fd and 3.07 first gear.

this is my first set of slicks, so im kinda in the dark on sizing. id like them to be able to hold this motors power, along with possibly going to 220-230+ whp all motor if i get bored with this one later in the summer.

thanks

My motor makes ~200whp/~200lb/ft, and i cut mid to high 1.6's on 22x8x13 M&H. I'd recommend them....unless you're going to gear out of 4th.

You'll be close to 5th with 22". Im stretching out 4th in my LST (~300whp) with stock 4.4 FD LS trans.

so that would lead me to believe a 23 inch would be in order i would think?

rev limit is 8900-9100, havent retuned it with new header/exhaust so i dont know exactly yet, but it will be no higher than 9

if you are planing on making 220 or 230 with the 4.9 fd you will be better of with 23's

well the 220-230 is more of a safety net, i dont think this motor will hit that, but if the new header and exhast adds 10whp thats almost where i would be anyway i guess.

based on whats been said im almost thinking at this power level now due to the gearing a 22 would be too small, as i would haaaaate to have to shift to 5th and i would have to redo the whole gearbox lol.

anyone know what size street tire is 23 inches? that would i could pop it into a gear calculator.

195/55/15= 23.44 which I BELIEVE is pretty close to the M&H 23x8x13 diameter.

Or 205/50/15= 23.07

If you were making a solid 230+whp and the combination of the 4.9, 3.07, and 9000rpm, the 23s will be a safer bet.

But if you're not even close to that and under 200whp, I would stick to the 22s.

well im still stuck then. motor will be minimum 210whp so doesnt that make the 22"s a little of a risk?

In my opinion it all depends on what RPM/MPH you'll be running through the traps and what your max RPM for the engine is. Use a gearing/speed calculator (google one) to determine this and if your RPM/MPH will fall into line with the 22" slick I'd opt for that. I like to use the shortest sick possible at all times. The times/mph in my sig were ran on a 22" slick.

whats your setup? gear calculator shows a little larger than 22 inch tire gives 119mph at 8900rpm and a 23 giving 123.

i thought a larger tire would give lower mph due to more rev's needed or something like that?

the only passes this motor made were at 10whp less than the current tune, and with an all stock trans resulting in a 14.5 @ a max of 97mph, it was also one of my first 4 passes ever.

i guess im not educated in tire aizing enough and why you use a taller tire as power goes up.

Im running 22x8 mh slicks on 13x8 diamond racing wheels. My setup on 19 lbs is @365 whp maybe a lil more. Ive cut a best 1.66 60. Going to try to lower that hopefully. But with a all motor setup you should be good with 22s. Might have to bump your rev limit with such a short final.
