Default Help remove 90 integra rack and pinion

Sup everyone, I'm needing help on removing a rack and pinion on my friend 1990 integra. A few months back, he ran into an 18 wheeler and of course the guy kept driving, cause he probably didn't feel it, but now his passanger side wheel is bent inward. Well, he calls me up to come check it out, and when I took the wheel off, the first thing I noticed was the UCA was broken, so I replaced that. Upon futher inspection, I see that the bar connected from the rack and pinion to the tie rod is slightly bent. I tried taking the tie rod off, and the damn thing isn't coming loose, cause I think it stripped out the threads when it was hit

Well anyhow, I'm needing some help on trying to figure out how to take the rack and pinion completely out or is there a way just to take the passangerside of it out? I've taken all the bolts out and the rack and pinon is pretty much sitting there but attached to the steering column and there's no way of unbolting it unless if I'm missing something? I know in most cars, you can simply take out a 10mm bolt from the steering column to the rack & pinion and it'll just drop out, but in this case, it's not happening for me.

Does anyone have a link to where I can get a service manual? I've seen some links for the wiring, but I don't need that.

Thanks in advance

I've done about 4-5 rack and pinions on integra's. Mine twice because I went manual. But your right bout the 10 mm bolt on the steering column. And don't forget to lock the steering wheel. That will disconnect it from the rack. Now I'm pretty positive that this is power steering rack. Now since you already got it unbolted from the sub frame, I disassembled the gear box. I think its 2 or 3 bolts that are a 10 0r 12 mm. They are a pain in the ***. That and the two hard lines, you will need a 10mm flared wrench for. Once you got the gearbox split, then you should be able to manuever it enough to separate and be able to pull it out. And to put the new one in, is pretty much reverse. This is the fastest way to do it. It's a pain in the ***, but its faster than dropping the whole subframe. If you have the time to do it, then yeah, drop the subframe. But if you don't, then wait to put the tie rods on the rack until it is completly in. Hope this helps. I have been trying to find a manual on doing this too. But pretty much had to learn myself with a few buddies. Is'nt that difficult any more. Hopefully I helped you out a little.

so I basically just take it apart where the hard lines are? I don't see any 10mm bolts where the steering column connects or am I just not looking in the right area? I'm gonna have to take another look at it over the weekend. Another quick question, is there any way I could possibly just take the passenger side of the rack and pinion out or is the whole thing just 1 piece?

The rack is one piece except for the tie rod ends. I know the inners are separate, but I have never taken them off. And the 10mm bolt is in the inside of the car at the bottom of the steering column on the steering shackle. Take the bottom bolt all the way out and the shackle will slide up and off of the rack gear. And yes, separate it wear the hard lines are. It is a pain in the ***, and time consuming. Just let me know if u come across any problem just in case I forgot sokmething, but that should be about it. And I did find it easier to separate the axle from the half shaft and pull it out through the driver side. Hope this helps.
