Icon6 Help!!! Car died while driving!!! =(

2000 civic si - 113K miles on it.

So I was driving to work today on the freeway when I started to hear a weird knocking/clanging/banging or some type of noise as I pushed on the gas pedal. Thought it was a bit weird, but car was still running? Then all of a sudden the car just DIES. The Battery, Oil, and check engine light all turn on. I was able to coast it over to the side of the highway. I tried to start the car again and it made the same HORRIBLE loud noise.

First thought was the timing belt was bad. But I just had it changed about 8K miles/8 months ago. The noise seems to be coming from the block, but I honestly have no idea past there.

Right now she's parked in front of my house and needing some surgery I'm assuming.

Has anyone else had something like this happen? Suggestions?? Help??? Please!!!! =D

I appreciate it!!!!

You are correct about the timing belt being a strong possibility. Even though it was recently replaced, it may have slipped.

Knocking noise...ahhhhh memories...reminds me of when i blew my engine. it also left me stuck on the freeway. Does it hesitate to turn on? Is the knocking noise constant or only at certain rpm? My knocking noise was the results of a rod bearing that when out. Might be new engine time...Had u check the oil level before this happened?

I'm hoping it's whatever is the easiest and cheapest to fix.

I am in need of an oil change - it's been about 3800 miles/3 months (to the day actually) since my last one.

Haven't had a chance to pull the cover off yet and look at it - but I talked to another friend and he thought it could be the timing belt as well.

The knocking-whatever noise just started this morning like a min or so before it decided to crap out. It seemed to go away if I wasn't on the gas - when I pushed on the gas it got louder and then all of a sudden power was cut.

Really don't have the time or money to deal with this right now damnit!

lS vtec will definitely equal more power. Especially torque. Its to bad it was a rod. Were u thinking of going the cheaper and just rebuilding the B16?

We figured that it'd end up costing just as much if not more to have it all rebuilt with all of the machine shop expenses and such.
