Default What's the best swap for an EG??

I'm gonna buy a 93-95 hatch with the intention of swapping it with a new engine. I have very little knowledge of cars, but I love eg civic's and i have enough to upgrade the motor.

I would really appreciate any advice regarding the best engine to drop in there and how to go about finding a great shop in the Denver area to do the work.

I was gonna get an 01-03 si hatch but figure my money is better spent on an older civic cause i love the 93-95 body style and would love to have a powerful engine that I can keep adding to and learning how to work on over the next few years

There's no such thing as a best swap. Do you want to stay na or go boost? If money is no object, go for a k20. If you want to boost, swap in an ls or a b16. If you want gobs of torque, b20. I mean, the possiblities are endless. If I were you, I would start searching and reading up on various platforms and builds and get a feel for what might be right for you. Regardless what you choose, be prepared to spend a couple thousand dollars at least.

I can spend around 5,000 total if necessary... turbo would be super cool if it's reasonable. I want an engine that has a lot of potential to keep adding on to it and as much power as i can get for the money

Yo you see up top? there is a stick on motors, what is good about them and what is bad. And like it was said, there is no such thing as a best swap.

You said your in the Denver area? Take it so Speed Image, Moe does nice work there and they are cool people there. If you dont have enough money to go K series then go B20vtec, they are the next best thing. J32 swaps are fairly cheap as well but then you either have to cut a hole in your hood or ride almost stock hight cause oil pan clearance.

K20!, but really dude, put the motor that you can afford in it. Not everyone can swing a 6-10+ that a k swap costs, and not everyone can afford a gsr,b16,type r swap.

id say just cuz your new to this keep it somewhat simple granted a k series would be nice but i would rock the b18c or b20 vtec there not as expensive so you will have money to throw at suspension and rims and tires as well
