How to Bed-in Brake Pads and Rotors
Is this important? My mechanic installed new pads and rotors for me in the front, didn't say what to do afterwards, he took it for a test drive after the job and gave me the keys.
What are the possible side effects of not bedding your pads and rotors?

Well, its possible that his drive may have been used to bed it?
I don't know about what brand you used, but when I put my brembo sport slotteds and my hawk hps, I had to do some rapid stops from 30mph, then 40mph then 50mph or so repeatedly.... After this, it said to sit the car and let it cool for an hour, but I had to run so I took the highway, assuming this provided enough cooling....
Anyway no problems since

Do NOT come to a complete stop during the repeated braking. Get up to about 40-45mph, use medium to medium-hard brake pressure to slow back down to ~5mph, then speed back up and repeat. Again, do NOT come to a complete stop during this time. Do NOT allow your brakes to overheat, which will be easy at this point.
Most likely with the pads your mechanic installed, you wouldn't tell the difference if the pads were bedded in or not. I have noticed, however, that many people will end up with some slight brake squeal when the pads are not bedded in properly.

Then go on hawk's website and read the bedding instructions. they also come on the box for the pads I think.....
With Hawk HPS pads, you'll definitely want to bed them in. Bedded in properly, you'll have slightly less dust and virtually squeal-free operation. Just look around at various procedures... They're all about the same and just about any of them will be fine. Exact speeds aren't that important, but the heat cycling is. Just don't overheat them, and don't come to a complete stop during the procedure (while the brakes are hot) and you'll be fine.
Well they've been on for over a week now, so maybe they were bedded-in by my mechanic however I don't think so because he went on a minute test drive, and just handed me the keys to drive off didn't tell me to let em cool off or anything. ****ing mechanics are so shady and full of crap.
I tried the instructions, just moderate braking from 30-35 and hard braking from 45 without coming to full stop but I don't think it matters after over a week of driving and more then 500 miles already on it.
I'll be sure to follow the instructions or ask my mechanic to do the bed-in procedure written on the box after he does my rear brake job with hawk hps and brembo rotors.

Yes it does matter. You're probably still fine even after 500mi if you follow the bedding procedure. You'll be kicking yourself if in 15,000 miles your brakes start vibrating.

I got the brakes done at the Import6 guys, I expected better, paid $200 for the front brake job for Centric rotors and hawk hps pads.
I picked up the parts for the rear myself, $150 for brembo rotors and hawk hps pads and I found a different mechanic in Palatine that's been working exclusively with Honda's/Acura's for 15 years.
I haven't had good brakes in 2 years, went from some premium quality Napa brake set to Raybestos Ceramics and now onto this, finally getting some good braking on the Hawk HPS pads in the front so decided to do the rear ones with the same.
Atomic1 check your pm.

Different brake pads will have different results. If you ran the Hawk HP+ pads, you'd have noise pretty much all of the time...
Was going to get the EBC rotors for my 96 LX, but tree just fell on the back of the car (estimated $1000 damage) .. so i'm going with the Napa Premium rotors..
anyone have experience with the Napa Premium rotors???
