Default Speedometer and Stick shift questions

Okay I've looked up other stories of people having problems with speedometers not working and it was either due to VSS or Corrosion within the plug but the thing is with those stories all of them the speedomter stopped working all together. Mine on the other hand only seems to not work only if the car is cold, as in frost on the car cold since it's still cold in Utah,( after it's warmed and driven for about 5-10 minutes it starts working) or if the car has been sitting for over 16 hours.

Now does this mean it could still be VSS or Corrosion?

Also about the stick shift for the transmission when the car is in gear the stick seems to have a lot of play to it. I mean a lot! Is this due to a bushing under the leather cover? Also what is that bushing called so I can seek one, and would stock oem ones be better then aftermarket?
