gsr head or si head which would be better
okay guys i have a jdm b18c gsr with a gsr head and i was just wondering if i was to swap my gsr head for the si would it realy make differance in power throttle responce ect. is there any bad sides to this swap thank yall in advance
i think the gsr head has slightly smaller combustion chambers which would result in higher compression, but the b16 head would rev higher stock vs stock, not sure on which head flows better though if any at all
They are pretty much the same. Then only real difference is the amount of intake manifold options....but performance is within a couple hp of each other
gtfo with this bull, make your own thread, or develop a brain and decide for yourself what would get the best performance out of your motor, since its an LS, buy a turbo kit cause all the bolt-ons in the world wont help unless you are force fed

and if you plan on upgrading the valvetrain why pay the extra money for an R head? it'd be close to same price to buy a B16 head bare and port it and put a better valvetrain in there
Really though, the dyno graph posted the answer. Stock for stock, it doesn't really matter. Personally I'd go with the gsr, but that's me.
i looked a lot into the ls vtec since i have a LS and i mean i looked a lot into it... different parts different heads and to be honest ill give you the best and right answer you want.... gsr and b16 are simliar but the b16 head has a better flow STOCK and thats because IT HAS A MILD PORT AND POLISH on the head from factory.... paying 400-600 for a head plus the conversion kit and staging up your clutch, cams, ecu, and valves your gonna spend an easy 1200... it will run harder than a stock gsr or type r and thats because you fully built your head and the compression will be high!!!!.... to make the same power for 500-900 you go boost on your BONE STOCK LS and you can go 12psi no higher than that.... the turbo kit doesnt matter but what does matter is the turbo and intercooler itself so now you choose which route you want to take... i have seen ls b16 on 5 psi push veryyyy hard but thats money being spent of course

The heads flow within a few cfm of each other, which is reflected in power on the graph i posted earlier. The gsr head makes couple hp more at the wheels at lower rpm, and the B16 head makes a couple hp more at higher....being it's only a "couple" of hp, you wouldn't even feel the difference!!!
Mild port job on the B16 head, No! The Type R was the same head with the mild port job, it was the only one. Stock for stock, the B16 head and type head make 4hp to the wheels, i've dyno'd them. (talking only about the heads here, not cams, manifold, ect) The extra 4hp are from a mild hand polish of the bowls, and the cut of the valves, gives a slightly better air flow along with a better and lighter valve on the type R.
The gsr head (P72) has the squared off quench bowl which give a .1 bump in compression, and is less prone to detination under boost conditions
Deetz, i dont know how you do it. I was getting far too frustrated to post anything helpful.
for that effort
I've read this a few times and honestly, i can't find anything useful in any of it. The info you have provided is very misleading and wrong. Please refrain from giving advice about subjects of which you have little knowledge. Thanks
for that efforti looked a lot into the ls vtec since i have a LS and i mean i looked a lot into it... different parts different heads and to be honest ill give you the best and right answer you want.... gsr and b16 are simliar but the b16 head has a better flow STOCK and thats because IT HAS A MILD PORT AND POLISH on the head from factory.... paying 400-600 for a head plus the conversion kit and staging up your clutch, cams, ecu, and valves your gonna spend an easy 1200... it will run harder than a stock gsr or type r and thats because you fully built your head and the compression will be high!!!!.... to make the same power for 500-900 you go boost on your BONE STOCK LS and you can go 12psi no higher than that.... the turbo kit doesnt matter but what does matter is the turbo and intercooler itself so now you choose which route you want to take... i have seen ls b16 on 5 psi push veryyyy hard but thats money being spent of course
Either way that guy is talking out his ***, and its getting way too common on HT.
OP get whatever you can get your hands on. Like most everyone said above me it wont make that much of a difference. Dont waste your money on a R head, honestly the PNP job from the factory sucks, start fresh with a virgin head.
Dude I wouldnt go running your mouth like that if i was you, show respect and you wil get respect. These guys know wtf they are talking about, and besids it seems like you dont know anything about your motor, you made 2 threads almost exactly alike.
right......idk any thing about hondas ima be the man and leaveit at that. thanks for your post though!!!!!
well im not a full hard on technical mechanic but from the research i have done more people go on the b16 head side for the lsvtec because it flows better and rev's higher but like i said thats from research... i dont work in a shop so i cant debate i can only give an input and for the turbo part... no im not counting on the ecu or tune or anything... like i said a turbo would cost from 500-900 ON EBAY

you didnt fully read my posting and like im going to say for the third time ITS FROM RESEARCH and most honda research you do is from forums so its not my fault if some people are dumb and like i said before people prefer to use the b16 head and the area im located at i rarely see people use a gsr head for ls or b20 vtec conversion... i always read before i type and i double check before i hit the reply button ohhhhhhhh and to back it up...... http://www.b20vtec.com/forums/b-seri...mparisons.html
