Default How to fix broken glovebox hinges

ok, if you're like me one of your friends went into a drunken conniption and kicked the crap out of your glovebox breaking both of the hinges. (well, that might just be me....but for whatever reasons...these things break). here's my solution (to fixing the glovebox, not the drunken friend.....there's an entirely better solution for that involving duct-tape and/or braining the guy with a wrench).

first remove your glovebox (should be a snap, mine was only held on by the latch....make like your're opening the glovebox and bingo...you're holding the whole dang thing). be sure to remove the hinges from the inside of the car.... phillips head screwdriver, they come right off. heres a picture of the under-dash portion hinges disassembled (and the screws that attach them under the dash)

get 4 small washers and some epoxy. epoxy the washers in place of the glovebox-side of the hinge. heres a picture of the epoxy and one of the washers setting up in the epoxy.

next remove the pins from the under-dash side of the hinges and use a dremel to make the opening large enough to fit the washers. heres a picture of a stock hinge and one that has been dremeled a little. you'll have to fine tune this when you put the hinge together.

when the epoxy has dried put the glovebox hinge back together....you might need to drill out some excess epoxy if its fallen inside the washer. this is the part where you might need to fine-tune the dremel-work on the under-dash portion of the hinge.
here's a hinge put together.

take the glovebox back out to your car and latch it back into place.

push the glovebox in until the screws that hold the hinge in place line up with the screws under the dashboard and reattach. it aint pretty, but who the hell looks under your dash anyhow? i mean, i can see if you and your girl are getting freaky in the passenger seat that someone's head might wind up down there, but really, if all that is going whoever can see it probably has better things on their mind

thats a nice way to do it.. I just used super glue... from the dollar store... But that all depends on how, or where it has broken...

Not a bad idea, I however don't let any drunk people in my car. Not even friends.

dunno, whenever i fix something on my car that i havent seen a write up on i try to chronicle it for the site though. i'm still new here and as soon as people see my car i'm gonna get labeled a ricer because my taste in bodymods is no longer in style. kinda hoping that if i am useful enough for doing writeups on stuff people wont totally hate me for what they view as "destroying" my civic.

Mine were broken when I got my CRV used I was able to get some from Honda for about $5 each. However they don't show them available for a 07 crv so I bought the hinges for another model car and they are exactly the same parts as the 2013 Civic and other models as well.

I got fed up fixing my glovebox hinges on my EG, and finding a 'Mystic Brown' glovebox is next to impossible these days, so I got a couple stainless steel multi-purpose hinges from Menards and tapped holes directly into the glovebox support rail for them and bolted them in. Bolted the other side to the bottom of the glovebox with tiny lock washers and nuts on the inside. That guy is going NOWHERE now haha. Lines up great too. Works perfectly with my glovebox light i pulled off an Integra and modified to my needs.
