planning to get an S, need help!
okay so ive heard some bad things about these s2000's. is there any years i should look out for? im scared because ive heard that sometimes there are engine failures in 3rd, and 4th cylinders. should i just stay away from 1999-2000 or lmk which ones too stay away from. im only really concerned about the engine, not much about the cosmetics. im also aware of the clutch which doesnt seem all that bad. but this car seems to get odd complaints, because some people seem to think this is a horrible car because of some of those"common problems" and others think think this car is amazing with no problems at all.
after all this research, im too scared to even want to buy one.

You probably have to do a bit more research if you're looking at and finding 1999 S2000's.
(They don't exist)
There are a million threads on prospective owners asking every question under the sun. Certainly you can read those and pick out what you need to.
S2ki is the popular S2000 site, which also has plenty of prospective owner threads.

hmmm too much gran turismo i guess, well ive searched s2ki, just now i guess theres nothing really that bad, its all on the driver and whether they over revved etc. so has anyone had any bad experiences with the 2000 s2k's? im planning to look at one soon. after going on s2ki i feel a bit more confident on these S's
No problems at all with 00-01 S2000s. Some did have a recall for the taillights fading cuz of sun damage. Perhaps install more oil jet bolts if you want to go FI in the future. Other than that, they are problem free, like most S2000's.
I took delivery of my S (which I still have), Nov. '99.

Ive owned a sc300, wrx, sentra, mazdaspeed and now the s2000. After being a member of forums for each the S clearly has less to worry about than most cars. Most the stuff your gonna read is bad because people dont seek out forums to blast about how great there car is. (seems to happen a lot here tho ;-)) Usually people get on forums to find a fix to the problem they experience. Yes all cars have issues, they are machines with 10000's of parts, I've worried least about my 2001 s2000, try geting a ser Spec V sentra, OUCH or a Mazdaspeed..

is that "clutch buzz" really all that annoying. ive just sold my eg that was gutted, solid motor mounts, im pretty used too all the vibrations, and all the rocks and such. the s2000 cant be that bad right
Ya i've got mad clutch buzz. Just intalled 60mm HKS hi-power twins now i say what clutch buzz? LOL and the HKS is one of the more subdued exhaust choices, if you like raw power and little weight you'll have a 3'' megan drift spec on ur s2k in no time and you wont even be able to hear yourself think let alone a lil clutch buzz.
My S2000 is by far the most fun car I have owned.
I drove it one month stock and it was a blast. Then put it away for storage. This past spring I turbocharged it, and boy does it put a huge smile on my face everytime I drive her.
Mine is a 2000 btw.
