car dies when in gear
Hey guys i just recently just bought a 1989 Honda Civic DX. The car turns on, but When i throw it in ANY gear it just turns off. The car is 5 speed transmission. I would really like to know the cause of this. thanks in Advance!
I find it hard to believe its a worn clutch. From my experience a worn clutch slips and the engine runs fine. You just dont go anywhere.
I'm thinking its an internal issue in the transmission. If the car is in gear and clutch disengaged does the car move?

The only time that happened to me was when the Quaiffe diff was not shimmed correctly and something inside the trans was "bottoming out". The car would stall just as you have described. Good Luck
got a question i am having the sam problem with a b series trans and most people say clutch and i was just wondering how that could be cause if clutch is bad it just slips or wont go idk how by putting in gear the clutch would cause the motor to die if u got more info let us know thanks
try this. next time u start the car put it in first with the clutch to the floor like normal. see if it starts then dies. if so. adjust your clutch cable looser. a fuel pump or alt does not have any thing to do with just putting it in gear with the clutch dissengaged.
mine does fine when staring with it in gear it just dies when u let out on clutch and u can even try and keep the engine idles up when letting out and it still dies and the car has no axles in so theres nothing bogging down motor. i think sumthing in the trans is in a bind
