What's the best way to hit 14's?
I'm just starting my project crx, which i finally got running perfect after a month or so of wiring (damn theives). Now i'm starting to think about how to make it fast. I'm putting all my money into the engine, but i'm kinda on a strict budget. As you may see it is an 89 si. I'm looking to get into the 14's. I don't care if I can go much faster than that. I just want a fun to drive car that can beat up on a few mustangs. Here are my options which one would be the cheapest and most reliable for mid 14's. Also what could i run if i hooked up a 50 shot of zex to my CRX and spray until I blow her up?
- Build up my current d16a6
- Supercharge my D16a6
- Swap in a d16z6 maybe with n2o
- Save for a complete B16 swap
Please tell me what you think. Thanks.

if u can find a d16z6 for cheap do that then n2o!! low 14's
d16a6 n2o-high 14's soon to die
b16 low 15's then add n2o..low 14's
orrr homemade turbo ur existing motor..mid 14's cheapest route!! $800 max

i think im the only person who thinks the d16z6 sucks... hmm
well current d16a6 compression has to be raised. i believe its 9.2:1 which is very low. so low that a turbo would work like a champ. however if you want to do all motor, raise that compression.
pulling 14s (especially w/ d15's) takes time. i suguest you gut your car.

There also is another way as well, its not a whole lot better then the d16z6 its going with the JDM ZC motor. Benifits of the DOHC but no vtec. Gut it and run a 75 shot ZEX. Thats what my friends been running with a bad tranny and on some cheap street tires hitting 14's all day. ZC motors are pretty cheap to pick up, seen them as low as $350 and like a D16z6 you can use your old tranny and axles, just need to pick up a older teg ecu like a 89 and its a straight drop just like the d16z6. But if you are looking towards being faster in the long run. I think you should look into getting a B16 you will be alot happier. Just my 2cents

build up the d16a6. forged rods, crank, pistons. then upgrade your valve train. and then spray a 100shot or more. 13's before you know it(or even better). or just get a junkyard turbo like me. maybe not the quickest project to do, but it never runs out like n2o. its always there. and its a fairly cheap project. and also, sohc turbo ownz all of you. the guy at home made turbo ran a 14.2 @ 101 with his slightly gutted d16a6 in the EF.

Coming from both sides, here are my times:
90 CRX Si. B16a1 w/ CAI, DC Sports Ceramic 4-2-1, 2.25" catback. 15.1, on a 2.3 60'
14.8, w/ a 3.0 60' Zexed 55hp shot
88 Civic HB ZC/T:
I/H/E, ACT 6puck, Fidanza 6lb. Gutted. 14.8 (Supposedly (sp?)
Greddy TD04H w/ MSD 6A, Vortech 12:1 FMU, ACT 6puck/Fidanza, 98 GSR alloys w/ stock tires (bald), stock everything else: 15.1, 2.5 60', missed 3rd and thought I took out a cylinder... Going back when I have some fuel management and new tranny fluid.
I say ZC/T, but that's just cuz I love the pssssss, PSSSHHHAAAAAA, psssssss, PSSSSHHHHAAAAAA, psssss, PSSSHHHAAAAA.
BTW, I have less than a total of $3500 in this car (INCLUDING the original purchase of the car)...I could have done it even cheaper if I had done the swap myself.

BTW,
Ever thought of just mini-me'ing the a6? Get some lowered compression pistons and turbo that...
On the list though, I would pick z6. Talk to ed9hybrid. Once he got his running right w/ the VAFC and timing, it's a beast...

I ran 14.8 at 94MPH (2.32 second 60 foot) with my 1988 DX, a 1994 Del Sol VTEC B16A3, and basic bolt-ons. So it is very possible to run 14's with even a basic B16A setup. You just need to make sure that you are running a good tire/wheel setup and launch properly.
