I just put integra rear discs on my 96 dx hatch, new rotors, pads, fully bled. I have read numerous times that you don't have to swap out the master cylinder, but I swear I think I need the Si one. My brakes will stop, but the pedal goes almost to the floor before they engage. If I pump the pedal a couple of times they grab a lot better and more towards the top of the pedal stroke. I am missing something here? I was planning on putting on an Si MC when I upgrade the fronts, but maybe I need to do it now? Anyone have any ideas? I'm not leaking fluid anywhere and I've bled and bled the lines until I saw no air bubbles coming out.

 

I first did the GSR brakes all around with the cx MC, and the setup was horrible. But not as bad as you described.

Are you monitoring the fluid levels ? If the fluid levels is not moving at all ( no leaks ). Then everything points to the MC. But it shouldnt be as bad as you described.

 

Yeah I am checking my fluid level daily and it is at the max level, I see no leaks anywhere and I just have the rears done for now. I still have the stock dx front brakes on. I'm going to have a friend come over and help me bleed these things some more. I guess there could be air in there, but I don't see how. I have already gone through a large bottle of brake fluid already!

I think u need a 60/40 prop valve. If ur gonna change the front brake system ur gonna need the si MC anyways. So u could just install it now.

I know many people that changed just the rear brake system and the brakes were great with the stock MC and prop valve. But i also heard of it not going so well.
I would change the prop valve to a 60/40, Then bleed again. That should fix it.

 

The only thing is that every thing I have read states that my car and the 99-00 si have the same prop valve.

 

Prop valve isn't as important as the MC.

I'm still running the same Prop valve.

 

Get the si prop valve, due to the fact he has dx hatch he has the same prop valve as si so he's fine there.
i will be changing mine to si when i do mine, but i will also be doing the fronts.

 

I think I may have effed up by trying to bleed the brakes with the car running. What do you think. lol!

 

Well I finally fixed the problem! Turns out my pedal height was out of adjustment by over half an inch. Once I got that back to spec, WOW, I now have brakes, and they bite HARD! I am so happy and relieved that it was something simple. for me.
