Best shoes for driving a manual car
Hi. I have a 99 Honda civic and I was wondering what kind of shoes would you recommend for everyday driving a manual car? I find it that when I don't have the right shoes I cannot rev the engine properly and release the clutch smoothly.
Are you really being serious here? As long as you aren't wearing shoes with a really thick sole like work boots or something then you should be fine.
i have a 2000 civic and when i drive my 45 minute daily commute, i wear crocs with socks on!! i can totally feel the gas and clutch i have attached a website so u know which one i wear. totally recommend u get a pair.

I am thinking in buying these shoes http://www.sportchek.ca/product/inde...ductId=3725004 Would it be comfortable driving a manual in these shoes?

Pfft, you guys should all do what I have to do sometimes -- drive a manual in stilettos.
Anyway, I've found that any kind of shoe works fine, as long as it doesn't have a really crazy tread pattern on the bottom. One pair of my sandals will get stuck on the little rubber pieces on the brake pedal sometimes, it's annoying as hell.

ive driven manual barefoot, in workboots, sneakers, sandals, socks, with my clutch foot out the window..its all the same as long as you know how to operate a manual car, theres no special shoe that makes you drive better, its the driver not the footwear
I disagree. If you have shoes with thick bottoms you can't feel the clutch and the gas pedal so you cannot release the clutch smoothly or give it enough gas. It's hard especially when you don't have a tachometer(in my case) so I have to listen to the engine reving up before I release the clutch.

I learned with no tach. I drive in whatever but I find a small sneaker is the best (pumas or adidas) when I autox and stuff. Big boots are kind of a pain, but it's definitely doable.
i can drive any car with any shoes, but i prefer pumas. you do get a different feel on your foot with different shoes. bare feet just feels too weird as do sandals. pumas works best for me
although i prefer some lightweight Pumas or Asics, i wear steel toe boots for work so my commute is always in those and it was no big deal once i got used to it.
however, my wife drives her manual accord in 4in heels without any trouble...

sneakers/slip ons with thin soles work best for me. but before i used to drive barefeet and it was ok too. just make sure the carpet and the pedals are clean or else you'll get dirt marks on your feet.
You really get a feel of the 'heel-toe' while driving barefoot, be sure to wear lotion filled socks so that you don't get rough feet or else it will impair your ability to drive a manual car.
Related question, what kind of shoes should I wear to drive an automatic car, I've never owned one but I would like to be well-prepared.
