All 98ish Lude owners help my friend please.
Basically he has an oil problem. Car has 60K on it, has I/E and a clutch upgrade. for the last 8K or so miles he has been seeing what the thought was black smoke coming from the back when he got on it. I noticed black dots of oil all over the back of it (and on my damn hood and windshield!) after following him home last night, I mentioned to him if he knew he was loosing oil, he told me that he had noticed over the last 2-3K miles he has had to put in a quart of oil every 4 days or so, any thoughts of what the H22A has problems with commenly and some suggestions of where to tell Kris to start troubleshooting? Any help/input is appreciated. Thanks...........
Thats normal. Whenever you punch it, you will shoot out a little bit of black smoke, cause whenever you hit VTEC, it's using up more oil....
maybe I am wrong, but this is what I have always known to be true with smoke:
blue
il
black=fuel
white=water/antifreeze
on one occasion I have had white smoke which I thought was a blown headgasket on my old school 85' 200SX turbo ended up being a bad turbo. (had just put a new HG on 4 month prior, boy did that one scare me too!)
And seems to me a quart of oil every 3-4days is extremely excessive, especially in a honda. If we were talking about every oil change like in my old 91' RX7 Turbo II I wouldn't worry, but this is a Honda............and we are talking about 3-4 days, not 3-4K miles!

What!?!?!? Dude, a quart of oil every 3-4 days is NOT normal! This sounds like a pretty serious problem to me...

hehe yeah a quart that often isn't normal at all.... well if he was burning that much oil like that the exhaust smoke should be bluish..... if it's black like that he's running rich! Does the car feel slow? Does it feel unsmooth?

1) Leaking - Inspect the block and head for signs of oil seepage. The fix will be new seals. Check oil in the pan. If it has coolant in it, the head is warped and/or head gasket needs replacing.
2) Consumption - Perform a compression test. Low compression indicates bad ring sealing which can cause excessive oil consumption. The fix is unfortunately an engine rebuild.

Kinda what I was thinking, I personally have not seen the car yet. He called me on the phone freakin out, figured I would get some input/opinions from you guys before I actually went over there. He says the car is running great.........has to be leaking.

hmmm well if it was straight leaking from the oil pan, he would:
1. probably notice a pool of oil on the ground
2. smell or see white smoke from some of the burning oil (some would probably burn on the exhaust piping....
