I recently messed up the quarter panel on my subaru as can be seen here:

I know im going to have to repaint the area to make it look good again so that is what i want to do.

My question is, where can I buy the exact paint for my car? I don't want someone to try and match it, because this paint is going to be hard enough to blend, and close enough most likely will not be close enough.

I dont know where at on the panel the scratch is,but if your lucky,then your local body shop may be able to burn the coler in.I doubt that may be possible,but its worth a shot.As far as the color goes,someone is going to half to try and colermatch the paint for you,no matter what kind of paint you buy.Sorry....

 

Burning the color in will definitely not work. It must be resprayed.

But being as how color matching allows for human error, i was wondering if anyone knew where to get more precise colors so there is no excuse for the paint to be slightly off.

 

You could find a shop that has one of those computerized paint mixers.
The device has a scanner that will match the color exactly.
When I had my truck repaired they were able to match the paint from my gas door by scanning it, and you can't tell the difference.

 

there is no such thing as a perfect match. only blendable matches. so no matter wat paint you buy, from which ever manufacture; its gonna have to be colormatched. the "Exact" paint as u put it could possibly be tracked down if you called the dealership

 

Just give your local body shop a call and find a local paint dealer from there they can match your paint.

 

I just dont want the paint mixing to be judged by the human eye since the eye is so limited in what it sees.

We have that system at my shop from ppg,It will only give you the correct paint code(in the base).It looks like a digital camera.You will still half to color match,and blend.Also the vehicles age and paint wear changes the color to,as well as the clear itself(it tends to have a yellow tint,its a pain in the *** to color match white because of that),so you will half to color match and blend any adjacent panels(depending on the location of the scratch).

 

when i was working at carquest we had a dupont scanner. scan the car and it would bring the forumla to mix it. most of the time though it will not give the car or in your case the suburu formula because it factors in fading from sun so it will calculate the closest forumla
