Might be intrested in a 97 prelude...
Hey guys,
Its been years since i have had my type r.I have been out of honda's a while.Anyways my friend picked up a 97 prelude recently and is willing to sell it to me for 3000.The car has 182k miles on it though. Its all original and not modified.I drove it about a month ago when he first got it and it runs great. No issues.Has slight rust starting on the rear wheel well area's(typical honda rust).Other then that it seems fine. What should i be looking for?Is this way too many miles for the car and is the price too much?He dropped the price about 800 just for me.Any thoughts i would appreciate. Thanks

thats more of an earlier 90's late 80's problem.
i've owned 4 honda/acuras from mid-late 90's and none had any rust issues.. one even was a katrina flood surviver..
i'd say 2500 (if its manual)
and dont buy it if its auto.
Somebody seriously neglected their car then.
Cars are not made the way they used to be with exposed metal. They are made much more efficient.
Those were likely do to paint/body damage that wasn't attended to. Or leaking seals. My accord was submerged in water for 2 days... only rust was on the brakes.

i could only take one car with me and the 944 was definately more important.
but the accord was fine after some new brakes and carpet.
ok guys...rust was very minor...anyways
I drove the car saturday...Everything seemed to be fine.I then got into the higher rpm's in 3rd gear and noticed it never went into vtec.I then drove nice and normal and tryed again and went to 6500 in 3rd.The car bogged down like i hit the rev limiter and the check engine light came on.I found out it had a vtec code po 1256 maybe???Anyways the vtec solenoid was removed and there was metal debris in the screen...NOT GOOD.So i think i may not go for it.As it could have some internal issue.

Maybe in the southern states. Salt sill eats up the rear wheel wells in the 5th gen prelude

Only way it seems to be worth it is if he dropped the price to about $800 or so, pretty much just buying it as a shell. Even then I'd be afraid of any car with rust unless you have the means to fix it quickly yourself. My 93 Si didn't even have that many miles on it when I got it...
