I use a Craftsman breaker bar and then a 3ft steel pipe on top of that. It's all about leverage.

yeah or get a impact if u have access
1000 pounds of tq should do the trick

i always use a breaker bar and then a 5 foot pole on that breaker bar.
some cars u wil need an impact though, ive broken breaker bars and ive bent then soo much that they were not usable

also make sure that the nut isnt still bent into the dent to keep it from coming off. This will make life much easier if you havent done so yet.

When I did mine I was turning it so hard the wheel was actually spinning on the ground. I had some one get in, hold the brake, 2 ft bar with a 3 or 4 ft pipe, then I hung on and pulled as hard as I could a few times, eventually falling on my ***. but it came off.

Yup, it is all about leverage and locked brakes. You still may consider yourself lucky, because it will let go soon or later, but at least it is tight. I undid mine with 3/8" ratchet and no leverage what so ever. If it wasn't for those bent tabs it was just a matter of time when I would see my front wheels passing me on the highway.

Good luck.

Get yourself a good impact gun. I got an Ingersoll Rand TNT and the thing is a monster, it fears no bolts lol.

Impact will do the trick. i tried a torch and a 5 foot bar and couldnt get mine off.

15 seconds with the impact and it was done.

don't heat it up with a torch. that won't do anything. try the breaker bar w/ extension or an impact gun like other people have stated. If you don't have anyone to help you by stepping on the brakes (which sometimes the rotor will still turn if the nut is on really tight) then what I usually do is stick a screw driver in the slots on the outer rim of the rotor and turn the wheel until the screw driver prevents the rotor from spinning by wedging itself up against the caliper.

also a good impact will help but if you don't have a good compressor it won't matter. you need to have a compressor with a high cfm output.

every car i do i tighten it with a smaLL RACHET, they are not suppose to be or neeed to be that tight anyways. as long as its snug and you indent it then its fine.

to take it off i just stick a screwdriver in the brake rotor so it doesnt turn, on the top of the rotor theres air holes to cool the rotor so i just stick something in there

not correct. they are supposed to be torqued to 134ft/lbs.

Yeah umm, except they hold the wheel bearing together. If you don't tighten it properly you will destroy your wheel bearing.

The one time I really had issues getting an axle nut off, I ended up drilling six holes in it, one at each point, and that was what it took.

So you tightened it more than what you say. My point is that you shouldn't go around spreading mis-information, that it doesn't need to be tight, when in fact it is supposed to be pretty tight, 134ft-lbs like Rue said.

So by that logic, when you do a timing belt you use a 1/4" drive ratchet for the crank bolt, right? I mean it's only 83ft-lbs, just snug it up...

im not even going to reply to you dumbass people that take everyhting out of context
i use common sense. sure you can tighten it to 130 pounds, good luck taking it out. I tighten it snugg and indent it, anyone with common sense knows that it will never come out

Would be o.k to tighten the axle at 120 pounds torque?
