You're forgetting a step or two.

You really need to clean down the plastic/vinyl with acetone or something to get the natural oils and junk off. Like really clean them. Then you can either sand the areas down to "scuff" the material to get ready to paint. Then get some "adhesion promoter" so that the paint will actually stick to the plastic/vinyl.

Infact, I'm sure their are a few threads on this already.

I say i am in the process since i do not have all that is recommended by sem you can find the directions at www.semproducts.com technical data sheet one (rap-1). SEM makes quality products and if you follow their directions you will be fine. I agree with removing the oils, dirt and debre that is on what you are trying to paint but i would not use acetone since there are quality cleaners out in the market.

I used the Rustoleum paint on some parts when I converted my DA from tan to black interior. Main issue...it's way, way too glossy. Not just in comparison to the OEM pieces, but in general, it just doesn't look right. Mine also started to chip a little, but that may have been due to my less-than-meticulous cleaning beforehand (just soap and water).

I've seen some very impressive pics of SEM painted parts, so I would second the recommendation to go with that.

My interior was painted completely with a something similar to this, not Rustoleum. Everything you see here is painted, NOT stock.

The only problem I had with that paint is that it was way too glossy. I used the "satin" hoping for a satin finish but it was glossy. I am probably going to redo it with flat and hope to get satin!
