Icon2 Need Some Recommendations

I just got a new set of rims for my 1991 Integra GS. i was wondering if anyone had any recommended tire sizes for a stock ride height with 17 inch rims.. sorry if this is a repeat ? just wonder what people are running. looking for a quality tire that wont break the bank. size and brand recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks...

you will use a 205 40 17

3 tires i would look at depending on what you want are

1. federal 595, this is a good $50 per tire tire. doesn't balance super easy but it offers better rain and dry performance than other low cost tires. it will run circles around a kumho ast for example

2. yokohama s drive $88 each. better than the above tire with a slightly longer tread life. easier to drive and more user friendly at the wheel.

3. falken 615 $107 each. superior dry performance compared to the others but at the expense of treadlife and rain performance. 10-12k miles is typical for a set. the other two will go twice that or more depending on how you drive and the condition of the car.

the 595 isn't really that bad in the rain, 535 was though. still, the s drive is the better way to go if you want a good 3 season tire. reviews can be found at tirerack.com

We need more information. What type of driving do you plan to do with them? Are you going to run a separate set of winter and summer tires? What are you looking for out of the tires?

Ok, no need to shout. I would recommend the Fuzion ZRi or Yokohama S.drive for you. The ZRi is a bit cheaper and performed very similarly to the S.drive in a side by side test but both tires are reasonably priced UHP summer tires that should be more than enough for your needs.

Get the Fuzion ZRi, $69/tire in 205/40-17 at the Tire Rack. Among summer tires, I normally recommend the Yokohama S.drive as well as the ZRi for "bang for the buck"; they are similar in performance and usually similar in price. However, in this particular size the ZRi is $19 cheaper, so go for the ZRi.

EDIT: LOL, just saw the other post...

I'm a big fan of the General Exclaim UHP, putting them on with my RPF1's on the Cooper.

Wow, that's an awesome deal! Usually when you get them at Tire Rack, you have to not only pay the price of the tire ($69) but also shipping (typically around $15/tire) and mounting/balancing ($10-20/tire). Even with sales tax, you saved a bundle. Nice job!

In most sizes, the UHP is less expensive than the S.drive or ZRi, as it should be, since its performance is not as high as either of those. So it might be an option if you're willing to trade off performance for the lower price. However, in this particular size, the ZRi is such a bargain, it's less expensive than the UHP, too!

Among the longer-lasting summer tires, the Kumho Ecsta SPT is excellent - similar to the S.drive and ZRi - but it has been unavailable in the smaller sizes that most of us need.

The "supersticky" tires like the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec (and other similar tires) offer great performance, but you are correct, they don't last as long (typically 15-20K miles vs 25-40K for the S.drive and ZRi). So it's a choice between more bang for more bucks, vs less bang for fewer bucks.

Glad you are happy with them. Those were one of my favorite DD summer tires and I will likely shop them along with the others listed for my next set of rubber.

Wow, recommending a really crappy all-season tire for a guy who has separate tires for winter use.
