Default thinking about switching my 97 v to 2wd turbo

i bought my v about 2 months ago. I hate it being 4wd auto. It gets terrible gas milage and shifts like its gettting kicked in the sack(240k miles). i want to turbo it and i think i am going to remove all the 4wd and switch to a ls tranny all fwd and turbo. input please

07 crv?? k series engine?? how are gonna out a LS tranny
on it??
or
97 auto gen.1 crv?? from the miles that you put on it??
i would do supercharging it rather than turbo, i almost did
this to my auto crv.. (i have 3 Vs! LOL..) not much lag and
constant power in lower rpms....and JRSC made a specific
model for our Vs! or use LS and just buy the parts specific
for our V(belts/brackets..etc)..

as for 4wd system, (you could)
remove the prop shaft, its just 8 bolts holding it from both
ends.. i know several V owners did this and just put it back
on winter season...i think they save an average of 20-40%
of gas consumption... i did that on my auto V and had a similar
result....

HTH..
good luck!

it is a 97, mistyped it. anywho.... I dont like superchargers, If i take the 4wd off i am going turbo all the way. I would use the exact same set up that i had in my ls eg. it got great gas milage and made great power.

Can you talk more about the process of converting from AWD to FWD? If it really is this easy, I'd consider it in exchange for the gas savings. It was be the same on a gen 1. 5 speed car?

Why would switching to a FWD tranny save 20-40% MPG? That makes no sense to me

40% probably is ???? but theres several V owners who managed to
save 20% atleast when they removed the prop shaft, i kinda felt the
mileage too when i did it to my auto V, try visiting hondasuv.com and
crvownersclub.. i think theres several V owners who could enlighten
you up about this... some of my knowledge bout V came from those
sites... (oem specs/technical)
it might be caused by a lighter load on the engine coz instead of running
4wd at some time(when engaged) the engine is just powering 2wd...
this has been same issue or being talked about when i stumble on a
ford explorer pick up truck discussion....

HTH...

I could understand this on an explorer or 4wd truck but the CRV only sends power to the rear wheels once in a plaid moon.. A PLAID MOON (that hardly ever happens) I just don't see how converting a 1st gen CRV from AWD to FWD would make any discernible difference in fuel consumption.

^^
all i remember is that in standard tranny Vs..1st gear is always on 4wd...
so that makes diff. in gas consumption right away, im not sure bout the auto
tranny.....??
for the 2wd option.. ill just remove the prop shaft rather than replacing the
tranny w/ the LS one...remember our Vs tranny gearing was made to suit what
our V needs...im not sure bout the ratio..all i could notice is that its good
on the mid range power and torque that our engine produce.. so its already
a match! this is just my .02c,

good luck on your decision!!!
keep us posted!
