D16z6 problem
well i recently swapped a D16z6 motor into my sisters auto civic.. Now it won't pass emissions test. I installed a new catalytic converter just today, and the old one was clogged with black soot.. which means its running rich.
What would cause this to happen? Can some one name me the sensors that would affect this? I will install the stock intake pipe, since the cold-air pipe has a hole in it, thats covered by tape.
PS: there is NO CEL either

IACV?... TPS?... Oxygen Sensor?... Possible Vacuum leak?... Ignition Problem?... Could it be the tape i used to cover the hole in the intake pipe, and its not holding?
New vacuum lines were put in.. new gaskets for everything.. i dunno :S

alright first of all yea install the stock air box. another question what engine did your sis have before?? also what computer are you running? whats the history on the engine you just swapped?? how many miles does it have? did you do a full tune up on the engine before throwing it in?? is the timing correct?
no blue or black smoke out the exhaust, engine temperature stays where it should be, doesn't move.
My sister had the 1.5L SOHC EX engine, automatic transmission... the ATX ECU is still in the car. No tuning was done to the car, and timing is correct... the engine had 90,000kms when installed.

ALL vacuum lines are brand new... and im pretty sure her old motor was the D15B7
i can't remember if the old ATX ecu is plugged in, or if the D16z6 ecu is plugged in... im pretty sure its the D16.
the car does feel like its running on 3 cylinders.

ay if your running the old computer its gonna run like crap, for the d16z6 you need to have a automatic p28 ecu so it'll run like it should, also your gonna have to run the vtec lines since you say ur sisters old engine was a d15b7, that engine is non V. also make sure you distributor and wires all are all good. make sure the wires are all the way to the sparkplugs.
distributor has a new rotor in it, wires and sparkplugs are both stock NGK, and are brand new.
i also believe the parts car we got the engine from, also had the wrong ECU.. since there was no Vtec wiring harness.. the wiring harness from the parts car was also spliced for somethin, so it was garbage. I used the old motor's harness... but i will have look around for a ECU i guess.

so i took the civic for another e-missions test, and it FLUNKED.. worse then last time.
HC ppm at curb idle, Limit = 200 / Reading = 315 FAIL
CO% at curb idle, Limit = 1 / Reading = 1.58 FAIL
NO ppm at 40km/h, Limit = 0636 / Reading = 2657 FAIL
i replaced the cat with a new Magnaflow OEM replacement, which is smog legal. I took out the o2 sensor, and cleaned it with intake sensor cleaner. There was a lot of black soot on it. I will take a look at the sparkplugs today, which are brand new NGK's, along with new NGK stock wires.
ALSO, THERE IS NO CEL.
All help is appreciated. Thanks!

i found out the stupid magnaflow cat is a 2-way... when theres supposed to be a 3-way.. i cleaned out the PCV valve, i checked all the vacuum lines, they all have perfect suction, and theres no leaks since they're brand new.
I pulled the plugs for the map sensor by the fuel filter, the car shut off, and i pulled the one behind the intake, which the car kept running, it triggered a CEL.
The car idles at about 600-700rpm, and when i rev it, it chugs at first, then it runs so-so... i pulled the plug to the TPS and the car's idle went to 900, and it triggered a CEL as figured. Still chugged when i revved the engine.
I have no clue what the **** this is, can anyone help? lol
