Figuring Out Compression Stroke Vs. Exhaust Stroke ?
Ok Guys, I Purchased A Motor, Needless To Say The Head Gasket Was Shot On The Number 4 Cylinder ( Smoking Like A Old Western Train, No Compression ). So, I Figured, I Have Another Head I Trust A Little More Than The One That Came With The Motor I Just Got (No Known Condition Of The Head, Or Seals, Etc. ).
So ... I Set The Number 1 Cylinder To TDC, And Pulled The Head Off ...
How Would I Go About Figuring If The Head Im Going To Drop On The Block Is On Its Compression Stroke Or Exhaust Stroke, Or Would It Even Matter As Long As The Cam Is Aligned "UP" On The Sprocket, And The Block Is At TDC ?
Thnks For The Help In Advance ... Im In The Process Of Reviving A ***** Of A Car :X

no your combustion chamber must be set for tdc compression on your head
i cant remember the firing order for most honda engines, it could be 1,3,4,2 but i may be wrong,
if #1 cylinder is at tdc compression, (all valves closed)
then cylinder #3 should be on BDC intake (intake valves just closed)
cylinder #4 should be on TDC exhaust (exhaust valves just closed)
and cylinder #2 should be on BDC power (valves closed)
basically, if your #1 cylinder on the block is at TDC comp, set the camshaft so the intake valves are about to OPEN on cylinder #4 and the exhaust valves are about to OPEN on cyl #2
