Icon2 New car, interesting situation, and questions...

Alright so I just recently purchased a 91 civic si uh, with a full b18a1 swap, full skunk 2 suspension, and camber kit, and kept in Puerto Rico since 2006 (rust free!). I am only 3 months into the world of Honda, and have found myself with a k24a4 in my garage as well. Now comes where I'm looking for knowledge and oppinions and prices for what I should move forward with. If I keep the b18a1 in there, what suggestions for a build there? I have seen a few guys hit the 190-200 whp mark, and I eventually would like to make this engine the most it could be. Right now I'm kind of tight from buying the car so small things first I guess.

And now the question my wallet is afraid to ask ha ha! Would it be worth learning how to do my first swap with the k24 as far as performance potential vs cost (which I have not looked into yet) since all i have is the motor? And if its not I will be selling it to keep building the b18a1, what is a fair price for these guys with just over 100k? I know I am asking for a lot of info, but any knowledge you can share would be keeping another clean 4th gen on the road! Thanks!

i would sell one or the other motors. you could sell the k then use that money to turbo the ls. or you could sell the ls and maybe have enough to do the k swap.

That was one thought I had, I will be selling the one I don't go with, which would be more advantageous to build. I want to do more than just throw a turbo on and be done. What would start giving me more power without a turbo? I am really new, this will be my first build.

k24 would be nice but if i where you i would sell the k24 and turbo the ls less money, work and less hassle and you would have a nice setup that could go over the 200hp you have in mind if done right just make sure you can find someone that can tune nice in PR first and see if you can find all the parts i plan on putting a turbo on my b16 hatch and im from DR and thats one thing im going to have problems with here

Alright, k series would be very exciting, but yeah lot of hassle. Is. There a vtec head I can swap on here? I have read some guys do that for gain, id like to build the engine as much as I can before turbo. I like the builds that are raw power from 1st gear, without waiting for the turbo to spool up. That's the kind of build I'm really interested in, I think.

Bump... plus adding a few pics of the car for those interested. Cleanest one I've found so far! Ha ha ha, I am in love with this car.

The B18... Love it.

The K series I wish I could put in...

well if its your first time doing a swap a k series isnt the easiest. you will have to read up on it, because i do believe you have to re weld the tranny mount placement. and if i am correct cut some area around the altenator so it fits. some one please correct me if im wrong.

For sure, I am not about to jump into it. Probably spend a few months gathering info, that's what I'm looking for here. Trying to see if anyone I know has contact with someone who has done it. I really want to learn and see what it takes. Anyone done one on their own and cool enough to lend some words of wisdom?

There will be major expenses involved for Hondata, wiring harness, motor mounts, k-swap header, traction bar, shifter box and cables, hydro conversion kit, etc. It is do-able for a first timer, I'd say, but it will require a significant amount of research. Take a look at the FAQ thread sticked at the top of the EF forum. There are links to K-swap information.

That is pretty intimidating off the bat! I have a lot research to do. For the amount of gain is it worth it?

If you were to go with the K motor, would you be leaving it basically stock (bolt on's and maybe tune)?
Or would you be up for internal mods or boost?

The K has more potential, but in the long run is going to cost you more.

The existing B will cost less, but less potential.

K would most likely not be the best first samp to take on unless you are very mechanically inclined and have some resources to fall back on if you get stuck.

Dang man, I really wish I knew way more than I do because I really want to get the k series in there. I plan on over time and money completely building whichever one is in the car. So if the k would be more worth it like you say, I think it would be a better investment in the long run. I am open to any and every improvement, just a matter of knowledge and money of course. Hopefully I can find someone I or a friend knows who has done one and could lend a hand. Thanks for the input. Any idea how much I could sell the current b18a1 with tranny for??? maybe take some of the pain out of the cost of the k.
