Default Replacing the alternator cable, what gauge?

Doing a simple wire tuck and found that the stock wire has been spliced 4-5 times already... Not exactly what I like to use, lol. What gauge wire is best to go with, and is there a good place to order it from to get goo quality wire from online? I don't mind the part store wire too often, but the thicker wire just seems so hard to bend and cheap.

Is there any problem I could run into with going to high a gauge? The 8 does seem a little chintzy... the main problem here is that it has to go into my fuse box, and if I run 4 gauge it is still going to be cut back down to a smaller gauge to go into it.

doubt it, most of the time when people do the big 3 or what ever they use 4 guage wire some even use 0 guage, so it would seem to me your right the 8 is too small. i would be worried about runing to small instead of to big of wire.

anything bigger then 8g for the ALT is over kill...seriously its not neccesary.
there is such thing as being safe (8g)
then there is a thing called over kill.
having too big of a wire can have a negative affect.
(binding of electricity) (look at power lines for example) looooong distance small hard gauge
