recently bought a 95 civic ex, and im doing a bit of a fix up on it. it currently has aftermarket suspension, which are pretty beat. theyre set really stiff, springs are practically rusting, i think its a koni shock. im just looking to go for a new setup.
for now the car is on 15" wheels, not sure what brand. i tried to drop it all the way in the front, and when the coilover is turned down all the way, you can grab ahold of the spring and shake it around. why is it doing this? could it be a mix and match setup?
im just not sure what to be looking for, i plan on ordering new wheels once its painted, and need a good setup for 15x7's on a 95 civic.

would my best bet be to reinstall the stock springs once the new wheels come, and measure off that? i found a set of skunk2 springs on weksos for 164 bucks, lowers the front 2.5 and rear 2.25. the h&r's only lower is 1.3 f&r...

All off the shelf lowering springs are going to have some pretty weak spring rates. Stick with the Koni/GC setup. Call up Ground control to get some new springs. You can pick the rates you want and set the ride height you want. Seems pretty win/win to me.
EDIT:
how do i tell if the koni shocks are still in good condition?
i think im going to remove the coilovers, but how can i tell what size spring to buy?

Is there load on the shock while you are able to grab the spring? It's normal for a strut who's ride height is adjusted through preload to have the spring not have any load on it whatsoever while no load is on the strut.
You are adjusting the height of the car via load on the piston strut.
In easier words, you turn the spindle nut down and the piston will gain x amount of load on it once the car is on the ground. Which is why you can grab your spring and shake it all about when the car is off the ground.
As far as testing struts for serviceability? Take the strut off the car, remove the spring and push down on the piston. If it comes back up quickly then you're good. If it takes some time or doesn't come back up at all then it's blown.
