what rpm is best to shift at when racing???
what rpm is best to shift at when racing any car etc.
for example
my side ride civic VX is
92 HP @ 5,500 rpm;
97 ft lb @ 4,500 rpm
or anything.
im trying to understand it gear ratio/etc.
what best to shift at for this example, @ peak HP or Peak Ft LB??
my 1st gear my friend told me to shift it at 4,500rpm and second i always experiment shifting above 4,500 or 5,000rpm. it redlines @ 6,000 RPM
i know shifting after redline etc the engine looses power, what is best to shift it at.. any way what would i shift it at?????
im new and whats the best trick or way to do it????
i read this site and still want info from u guys

your engine should not be losing power at redline unless there is something wrong, or you have the wrong redline rpm for your car/setup.
Also, Is this a joke?

my friend told me just at Torque peak????

And OP, its best to find a middle ground between 4500 and 5500 with a d15z1. For example, You Should shift at 5250 RPM, according to the D15z1's powercurve, you will get the best power at this RPM.
when launching and you have a doo doo *** motor just ping off rev limiter and dump the **** outta that clutch. if you are going from a roll, do about 40 mph and just jam that bitch into first gear and then slam second gear. turn around after the race and after you get the other guys pink slip, and go pick up the piece of your block that came off when you shot the piston out the side of the bottom end. and then say oh well its just a single cam.... haha. figure it out by driving man... honest to god when it comes to driving, its either gonna come naturally or your going to have to really work on it. if you think your car performs better whn shifting 300 RPM shy of redline, then do that. its all about your own individual feel. always work on your driving. and dont ever get cocky and tell yourself that your a good driver, because the day that you do you'll end up in a ditch.
honestly wouldn't a dyno you get the best answer after putting your car on a dyno, to actually SEE where you're car makes peak power?
40mph and jam it into first? great advice,
shift at the redline. don't bounce it off the rev limiter or anything, but right before it gets to that. i shift my stock d16y8 at 7500 when i'm beating the **** out of it gettin on the highway or something. lol.

You have yet to mention what type of racing you're talking about. If it's autocross or track racing (with curves) it really depends. It's just all about practice and knowing your car. Jhammond, 7500 in a Y8? That's bold. I know my Y7 limits at about 7200.

pffft u guys are weenies, shifting at 7000. i shift at 8500
but OP when youre car has only 96hp at peak curve you shouldnt be worrying about shifting right.
an did you get the idea of correct shifts from Need for Speed?

If you have dyno plot and your gear ratios, it's pretty easy to figure out when to shift in each gear. If you don't want to get (or don't have money for) a torque curve, shift right before redline. Trial and error might work beyond that. The basic idea is to make the most average horsepower through your run.
Also, tell your friend who instructed you to shift at peak torque to stop giving car-related advice. He doesn't know what he's talking about, and the link you posted explains why.
Oh yeah, is this a joke?

I took my y8 to 7500 all day for about 8months...of course that ended with rod knock but it was fun while it lasted.
Learn by doing. Regaurdless of what sort of "racing" your doing...Learn by doing. The car talks to you...just listen... no two motors run the same and what mite work for some, wont for others....Just learn by doing.
Ignore haters on what your driving ( motorwise ) Its always been run what you brung in my book. If you have fun "racing" what you have then make the best out of it.
