Default Can't get secondary gear onto shaft

I got a set of LS 5th gears for a 94 gsr trans I have and the primary gear fit perfectly but the secondary gear will only slide down the splines about halfway. Their is no dammage to the splines on the shaft and the old one slid off perfectly. I looked for any burrs on the gear and it looked fine. I compared it to the other gear and its an exact match. It literaly has to be less than one micron off. I guess am going to exchange it for another one and try again unless anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.

This is my first time with a honda 5th gear swap. I've been working on cars for over 20 years, though.

I have a press and could just press it on but shouldn't it slide on freely?
