Maintenance req'd light
it is just a reminder to take your car in for, "scheduled maintenance under normal driving conditions" ie. 10,000 mi oil change, air filter changes, etc. If you bring your car to the dealer for service they reset or should reset this for you. If you have had service done recently somewhere else or change your own oil, filters, etc. you can reset this light on your own. Here is the protocol, which can be found in your owner's manual under, "maintenance required indicator":
1) turn off the engine
2)press and hold the Select/Reset (tripmeter) **** in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II) .
3)Hold the **** for ~ten seconds until the indicator resets.
Keep in mind that "for the first 8,000 miles after the maintenance required indicator is reset, it will come on for two seconds when you turn the ignition switch to ON (II)". This may be the flashing you refer to.
In any event, there is nothing wrong with your car. Now if the check engine light comes on, well, that's a different matter, which you want to have checked out asap.
