Default Autolocks issues

my passenger door wont unlock from the alarm or the driver side.

the door light switch works fine. Unlock works on the driver side but not the passenger side. this just broke about 20 minutes ago.

What could this be?

Bad wiring somewhere? maybe take the panels off the passenger door and see if something is disconnected?

My guess would be the actuator, but you'll need to pull the door panel to check it.

i agree w/ this guy...actuators are common failures on hondas

*hint* buy the entire latch/actuator assembly from majestic honda for around $43 (the actuator alone is around $39).

How can I test the actuator when I get to it? It either works or it doesnt? voltage output from plug?

Any fuses involved?

You can either test the output from the plug, or test the actuator by putting power to it after you've unplugged it. (or both.. I'd do both)

alright, i found it. its the entire locking mechanism that needs to be pulled. anyone have any directions for it? looks like the window track is blocking it too, that might need to be pulled. and all the levers connecting to it.

and i am getting a 12v spike when i hit the alarm, so the wiring is good

I've been needing to do mine for a while, now. I've been putting it off for various reasons. Mainly because it isn't bothersome.

I remember seeing pictures of someone using an aftermarket (ebay) actuator. They had to mount it in a strange position, but they're dirt cheap and it functioned properly. I'll poke around for it.

btw, I greased up the window track and it still closes slower than my drivers side window. made an improvement but not by much.

Should I apply grease to the side tracks as well?

don't bother going w/ aftermarket actuators. you can install them but it'll look like a hackjob. they fail more often too.

just buy a new actuator + lock assembly from majestic honda for $40. my driver side one lasted me 7 years before it failed.

Ahaha .. I meant that I would poke around for the picture, not the actuator.

I've already got a replacement (the whole door, actually) but I've been too lazy to swap the assembly.

yeah its very common on the 7th gen to have the actuator fail..i get alot of customers at work that ask about there door lock on there civics im not so sure on how to remove the actuator but it should be pretty simple by looking at how everything is attatch and then disassemble it after market actuators would work but it would mount weird id stick to the oem ones

One of the window tracks seem to be in the way of the actuator. Do I need to remove the glass?

Not sure, the manual doesn't cover it and I haven't replaced mine yet.

Are you still stuck with this? How far have you gotten? I can't imagine that it's terribly difficult.

no need to remove the glass...

the lock assembly is held on by 3 screws located on the side of the door. you also need to unhook a bunch of rods, and the lock cable.

You'll likely need an impact driver to remove the screws.

Edit: Did a quick Google search and found this link.

I didn't need one when i changed my actuator. I think the key to getting the screws out is to have the proper philips screw bit. I believe you need one that's larger than the standard #2 philips. The screws will strip if you try to unscrew them w/ the wrong size bit.

the three screws come out very easy.

I just couldnt wiggle it loose past the window track so I decided not to proceed further and put it back in place

Hmmm.. then I don't know what the deal is with mine. I gave 'er a try with a philips and they weren't gonna budge. Rather than stripping them or looking around for one of the impact drivers, I just gave up on it.

Now my biggest obstacle is my storage unit. The spare door that I picked up is buried near the back. It goes without saying that I'm in no hurry to swap the actuator, ahahaha! It's a low priority fix.

now that i think about it, i might have had to put my screw driver bit into a ratchet in order to break the screws loose....ratchet = much higher torque than screwdriver handle

lol ratchets have much higher torque than our cars too

But yeah I would use a ratchet to break the screws. Maybe spray a little WD-40 on there to help them out.
