Default bogging before vtec

this has been an on and off problem for awhile now... the problem is that right before i hit vtec the car jus boggs for a second like its misfiring and then vtec will kick in but this only happens when the car has a half tank of gas. after i put a full tank of gas in the problem goes away anyone got an idea of what the problem is? i own a h22a prelude if that helps any.

This happens to me at random times. ESP when I run at the track. I checked it out, turned out that the coil wire(cheapo autozone) was to close to some ground wires cause a distortion in the wires. Moving it away from other wires fixed it.

its kind of a tough call, do you happen to have any mods or tuning done to it? does it only happen at half tank or at half and below?
