Default whoo, i might own another 4g, need advice...

I found a 90 Std. Hatch locally I think I can get for like $500-700. It has little compression in one of the cylinders and blows smoke (burning oil) when the motor is cold.

Could I use a 6g d16y7 block (and maybe head) to replace the 150k mile plus d15b in there? My friend just did a b18c1 swap in his 96 EK, and has his old motor still that I could probably use. Would I just use the d15b intake/exhaust manifolds, tranny and mount brackets to get it to fit in the 4g?

Oh, does everyone think that's an Ok price for what I'm getting? The car is in really good shape with the exception of a few dings in the front pass side fender.

Let me know...

would it be better to use the d16y7 head and block or just the block with the stock d15b head? I may be able to get a y8 manifold and tb, will the stock 4g harness plug into the sensors on that thing okay?

There are a couple of things to consider. First using your stock head is going to keep you at around 70hp. Secondly, if you go with Y7 you will be putting a OBD2 motor into an OBD0 car. Thirdly, to use the Y7 you will have to convert to MPFI. Read this article for details - https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=111104 . It can be done, it will just take some planning and research to figure out the best way to do it.

How can that be if the stock block is 1.5l and the y7 is 1.6l... doesn't the displacement increase help some? So basically, use the y7 head 'cause it flows better, right?

Secondly, if you go with Y7 you will be putting a OBD2 motor into an OBD0 car.
Not that big a deal to me, it'll bolt in just fine and i have the y7 harness to scavenge plugs off of if i need them. Besides, the only truly different items are distributor, injectors, and plug on the alternator.

I've done an MPFI conversion already for a ZC in my 89 DX hatch. Not too hard of a thing to do. I'm thinking maybe it'd be better to just do a b16a swap right off the bat. What do you guys think?
