Auto ECU Chipping question

Hello again.
Out of curiousity, can you change the shift points on an automatic P28 ecu, if chipped with chrome? Like, going from the stock 6800 RPM on a D16 to 7500?
Or perhaps I'm understanding how this works wrong. From what I understand, the transmission control unit is integrated into the ECU for a D16Y7. How exactly does it decide when the transmission needs to shift?
