Sub Box Size for Spare Tire area????
I want to make a box for my 12"jl sub that will fit in the spare tire wheel well of my 00 coupe. Anyone know what size box I need to make to fit in there. I want to have flush mounted sub. Need some help/suggestions.
Which JL audio 12", they make a few of them.
Fiberglass with a MDF baffle and bracing would "use up" the least amount of room, main measurement will be subs mounting depth, [height of baffle], your looking at 1.250-1.375 cuft (net) depending on model of sub, easily flushed into spare tire well. 94

I used packing peanuts to do mine and most fiberglass enclosures. Hell while your at it might as well throw a pair in there, lol. Trust me you will thank me later.

Now that I think about it 4 might be a better option. Its a easy task. I sure you can do it.

You need to start by determining the volume of your spare tire well.
I use water, I line the well with plastic and fill it with water, I have a 20 liter bucket marked in 1 liter increments, I install jack stands to keep car level, once I have the well filled and have recorded the amount of water I put in, [liters] I convert that to cubic feet, use a siphon to get rid of the water, the last of it will come out with the plastic.
Now you have an very accurate volume of the spare tire well and are able to estimate how much of the well you need for the box.
I block off the rear part of well, [6" or so, depending on the box volume I need] for storage, using MDF, cut, sanded and notched to fit the well, then fiberglass the rest of the box, 1/4" of fiberglass is equivalent to 1" of MDF, I use 1" MDF for the baffle. 94
