The P72 head casting is unique to the GSR and SiR. What intake manifold is on the engine?

It is a 96 Spec JDM SiR engine. It is not a Type r engine. You were screwed.

These two details drew me to the conclusion. The block is stamped B18C. The head is stamped P72 with a 96 casting date.

The intake manifold is aftermarket.

For future reference, unless you're really good at identifying these such things (which not many people are), I wouldn't suggest partaking in such deals unless the seller has the papers for the work done to the car (e.g. receipts, dates, etc.)...sorry to hear that you got screwed over--I know, it sucks...hopefully it will all work out somehow.

If the chassis is a 97, it at least has the correct ABS for an ITR.
