Glass top vs. Sunroof top vs Metal top weights
Don't know if this will actually benefit anyone but I have the information so thought I'd share with everyone. This is probably mainly for anyone doing a glass top conversion because I don't see or hear about too many people changing from a solid metal top to a sunroof top or vice versa.
This is how much the metal top weighs on a DX or HF.

this is just the weight of the sunroof assembly itself, it does not include the skin like I included with the glass top and metal top. I wasn't gonna take the time to de-skin another roof, lol, sorry.

if you want an educated guess for the total weight of the sunroof top with the frame, I would say that comparing the size of the metal section removed from the sunroof top as compared to the metal top, I would approximate the weight as being about 4-5 lbs less than the solid metal top frame.
so the metal top frame weighing 13.5lbs, subtract 5lbs. max, and you get 8.5lbs as an approximate weight for the sunroof top skin. add that to the 27lbs for the sunroof assembly and you get 35.5lbs.
here is the weight of the glass top w/ frame

so end results
metal top = 13.5lbs
glass top = 26.5lbs
sunroof top = approx. 35.5lbs

I have been thinking about doing a glass top on my 91 dx after i saw your other thread. I honestly haven't even seen one until your thread. (noob, sorry.) What would it cost to get one of those/ where could i get one? What parts are all the parts that i would need, and stuff like?
P.S. Your car is SICK! Cant wait to see what it looks like finished.

however, if you are determined to do it, i see them go on ebay for around $1000. get one with the headliner because finding the headliner by itself is next to impossible. other than that, for removal you need a drill and a 3/8 metal drill bit, a chisel, and a hammer.
cooler than the sunroof top and metal top, definitely. but only lighter than the sunroof top, not the metal top. but the coolness factor cancels out all extra weight added by the glass top, lol.
WOW! thats a lot more than i thought. You are probably right, i dont have the time/money for that much braging rights. plus none of my friends would understand how awsome it truly is. lol. i will just stick with what i got and maybe in 10 years try it. lol I would like also to put 4wd on my crx.......probably wishfull thinking. I saw someone do it to thier 90ish (dont remember) civic. it didnt look like it was that crazy of a ad on.
i just wanna input that in a Si, the roof assembly may be heavier. your educated guess is a good indication but you may be forgetting that the roof has some reinforcements to hold the sunroof. i wanna say that just the roof itself might be as heavy as the hf/dx roof. if not, heavier.
i think the extra reinforcement is in the sunroof frame itself, not on the roof of the car. IIRC the top was the same as the dx/hf except for a hole cut in the middle. I'll double check later this week and take some pics of necessary.

I went from a sunroofed si to a dx roof on my crx and i would say the sunroof skin and solid skin weigh about the same. there is more reinforcement in the sunroof skin not including the sunroof frame. I'd say the sunroof total weight is more towards 40 pounds.
okay, looks like i'm over ruled on this one, lol. I'll still go and double check and get pics maybe later today if I can.
Great thread, I've been wondering about the top weights for a long time now. My interest is especially piqued because I just bought a CRX Si
you have this brace that goes across the back part of the roof. It also goes around the sides and the front of the sunroof but is only about 3/4 of an inch wide on these spots.

with the dx/hf you have these two cross supports.

I don't think the little bit of bracing for the sunroof would be enough to out weigh the dx/hf skin with a solid roof and two cross braces. but again that is just my opinion as I obviously did not de-skin the si roof. I could easily be wrong.
