Is This really an ITR head
picked up a "jdm" 97 spec itr motor and transmission for $500. I will be using the head on my b20 vtec how can i tell if the head is legit? has no green mark on back of dizzy head stamped pr3-2 and p73 00 pistons.
was it blown up? unless the block is shot that's either an idiot selling it or it's seriously stolen and now you have the hot motor. i'm guessing the block is bad since you're using a b20 rather than the vastly superior b18c? either that or the b20 is sleeved. pr3 anything is a b16 or itr head, which really doesn't matter if you're doing any port work. some of the early jdm itr heads had no port finishing but all after late 96 had a hand blending that became cnc in 98

I pulled the head ports do not look polished or ported . Im thinking i have the early model itr?is it just a b16 head filled with itr valvetrain? Do these things suck compared to the 96+spec? Pistons are stamped p73 00.

you got one hell of a deal. major props !
keep the entire engine, don't waste your time building a time bomb unless you spend the money to keep that b20 alive with real sleeves.

waattt, im pretty sure theres a big thread in the all motor section with people running some pretty big setups on stock sleeves. Done right stock sleeves on a b20 are fine

None of the ITR heads are marked with P73. They start life as a B16 casting, so they say PR3-X, where X is 1 through 4. The GSR is a unique casting, so it is marked P72.

yep, they run. if an engine only needs to run for a few races or a short period of time. all stock b20 bottom ends i have seen that spin over 8,000 fly apart fast if you try road racing and might, might make it a year of drag racing if you go a couple times a month. if you gram balanced one and upgraded the rods it would be a considerable improvement but the sleeve walk still is going to cause issues in extended high rpm use. the b18c isn't perfect but it is stronger than a b20
