You might have seen my threads in the classifieds lately trying to sell some parts off of my del sol that I totaled back in November. I of course needed another project after that was gone. I searched, and searched, and SEARCHED, and just a week ago today, I picked up an EG hatch for a STEAL. I'll just say I didn't pay much over one grand for it. Just thought I had to post it up here and "brag" a little about my steal. Expect to see a thread with a full build of everything I do to this car sometime in the near future. It could use a new paint job, as it has some serious sun damage to the clear coat on the roof. The front bumper is a little crusty, and it has one SMALL SMALL scuff of white paint on the rear passenger fender. The car drives straight and is very stiff still. The main thing that caught my eye was that there is ABSOLUTELY NO RUST. I even removed the interior and checked the inside of the quarter panels to see how clean they are, and it looks like it just rolled out of the factory!!! If you're looking for a cheap hatch, and all you can find are rustbuckets, don't get discouraged. It took me almost 4 months of searching nearly every day to find something this clean for this cheap. I just couldn't justify spending over $2k on a 17 year old car just because it doesn't have rust. This one is Mechanically ok at 167,00 miles, and could just use a little TLC on the body.

Thanks for the positive comments!!
TECHNICALLY I was already part of the eg family with the sol, but man this things a lot more rigid than the sol ever was, even with the stock suspension. The targa on those things make them feel so sloppy.
Plans... Hmm... I have so many ideas that I don't know where to start. I have a full kyb and omni-power suspension to throw on it whenever, just wanted to sand and repaint it all before it goes on, a set of fat fives and a set of rota group n's for wheels and a 2 and a half sets of tires (ecsta ast's and azenis). Have a 2.5 in. exhaust that needs to come off the sol before it goes on. It's eventually going to get repainted gray. The big debate for me is whether to throw my d15b vtec in it and do another fun little d-ninja setup, or just sell it and go B series with an sir-II b16 followed by sweet, sweet boost.

I have been postponing cleaning all of the interior pieces because I kind of secretly don't want to put them back in. I just cant get over how clean everything was underneath it all.
Think tomorrow I may take the carpet shampooer and hit up the floorboards and put the black floormats from the sol in it.

I've been working on just cleaning everything up still. Everything is looking SO nice!!! Got half of the rear interior all wiped down, and started sanding my KYB AGX's and Omni-Power coil-over sleeves so I can get some new paint on them. Getting the exhaust and rear discs off the Sol Monday. Checked all the brakes and brake lines out at class today and everything is in PERFECT working order except one drum is rubbing and it could use a fluid flush, but hey! I have the rear discs to put on
Pictures will be up once I start the suspension work!!!
Another thing, this car has absolutely no record of what state it was sent to from the factory. I actually bought it from a salvage yard in Toledo, Ohio (YES with a clean title, I know, random). When I was doing a thorough vacuum just 2 days ago I noticed I was getting a TON of sand up out of my carpet. I'm not sure if the car was maybe a Florida car, or maybe from the east coast somewhere. Michigan also has a lot of sand from the dunes and whatnot. They also use sand instead of salt in the winter if I recall correctly. Being bought in Toledo, I'm kind of leaning towards the Michigan thing, but the sun damage is SO bad which makes me think Florida. Would a Carfax tell me where the car was sent from Canada? and where it went from there? and so on?

dam thats sick that you have the rear disc conversion already! im so jealous lol. i recently bought my 95 civic for about as much as you did but it had a salvage title because it was stolen or some bs.

I know!! I love that I have ALL these parts I can just slap on from the sol. And yeah there's quite a few of those out there, not bad finds either if you know a little about cars to get everything all back to normal. A rebuilt title is as good as a clean one, as long as you know the frame is straight (In my opinion).

Cars in the Midwest are just so damn rusty all the time. I haven't seen a TRUE rust free hatch around here in literally... years? There's ALWAYS (or what seems to be always) bodywork or at least a small spot where its starting. I found plenty of good deals on unmolested hatches out west, but not worth the drive for me. What you see go for $1500 in Cali, seems to go for around $3000 here.
