'89 EF w/zc
I was driving to work this morning and I was going to pass someone and dropped it into 3rd and gassed it and for a second, the gas cut off like i had hit the rpm limiter but I was only at 6k rpm. The CEL flashed and then went away and my car was running like normal.

Then for the next 20 miles it sputters every now and then about 3 times. Then exit the freeway and stop at a light at the end of the offramp. When the light turns green, my car sputters again and shuts off and I just throw it into neutral and turn it on again. 2 blocks down the road I get another red light. It sputters off the line and as I'm making my turn the engine dies again and now it wont start up anymore.

No CEL
Battery has charge, hazard signals worked
When I turn the key, the engine doesnt even try to start up; starter not engaging
It started up fine this morning and I'm thinking a bad starter wouldnt cause a car to die when its already on

Any help appreciated!

 

I would take it to a local auto parts store and have them check the battery and altenator. I had a civic with a similar problem and one of the cells in the battery was bad. It would bog down to almost nothing when I would try to start it but all the electrical would work.

If not that I would check your ignition coil or starter.

 

could have poped a relay, main or fuel dunno

 

I second the battery...that happened to me last year. Driving uphill and car started to bog and sputter...then died. Ran fine after I bought new alternator and battery

I'm suspecting that its the battery and alternator also. About 2 weeks ago I noticed that my lights were flickering at night, even the side markers. So I was thinking that maybe the alternator was going out. I'm gonna try jumping it when i get off work (if i can find someone with jumper cables).

 

OK well I went to my car a few moments ago with a co-worker and we tried jump starting the car, but no luck. I'm hearing the single click from the starter now. I'm thinking my starter is dead. And the alternator is probably dead too because a dead starter wouldnt explain my car dying in the middle of driving. This sucks.

Anyone know how much a new starter and alternator will run?
