I have these wheels on my DA that are really old and dirty looking. The wheels have a dull grayish yellow tint to them. What is the most efficient way to make them look like 1992 again?

 

sand polish clear then buff

 

can you be more specific? I never actually done anything more than wash a car.

 

its the clear on the wheels that has the yellow tint. so you must remove the old clear by sanding them, polish them up a bit, then reclear them, then wetsand and buff/polish the new coat of clear. or you can just skip the new coat of clear and keep polishing them every now and then to keep them looking good

 

1.) Sand them down with 500-1000grit
2.) Wash them with regular water, and let them dry.
- At this point they should look as if there is no clear coat on them
3.) Give them a good through polish
4.) Give them a new coat of clear, watch for over spray etc...
5.) Let them dry, and cure.
6.) Give them another light sanding, use very fine paper.
7.) Polish'em up, and they should look as if its '92

I know this seems as a long process, but it really is not, for example if your free a friday night, sand and wash, then polish + clear coat saturday night, and sunday give them a light polish.

Yeah NP, But you want to be care full not to over-sand into the paint, if you do this, you will have to re-paint the wheels.

Do you have any experience using a buffer, or even just hand polishing? I recommend that you learn the basic how-to of polishing because you can damage your wheels / car / paint....

 

I stripped my GSR blades that used to be black with aircraft stripper, sanded them down starting with 320grit, (220 on the really rough spots), and went to 400->600->800->1000->1500->2000. Did not re-clear just polished the crap out of them with some Mothers. Looks like a mirror.
