so my 87 crx was running fine i drove over to the gas station went inside to get a drink left it running...came back out like 5 min later put it in reverse starting to move then it died, it didnt putter out or anything it just died like all at once...iv tested the battery and iv checked all my fuses it all checks out ok...when i turn the key all you can hear is the starter turning over but the motor doesnt turn over at all.... all i can think of is maybe the the starter is bad or it isnt getting any gas or maybe faulty weiring idk any help would be great
Thanks
Thanks
Ya the light comes on and i can hear the pump like it always does....thats why i still think its the starter i also need a new battery for sure its really corroded but it does still hold a good charge...
Start with the basics..
You said you can hear the starter motor turning but the motor doesn't turn over at all.
So if the crankshaft is not turning but the starter is you might want to pull out the starter and look for signs of wear on the starter or flywheel teeth.
next you said you thought its not getting any fuel but you can hear the fuel pump.
Now assuming you crankshaft is turning when you crank the engine you need to confirm you have three things.
Compression = good compression can tell you the timing belt, valves, and pistons are ok.
Spark = good spark can tell you that your distributer, coil, cap, rotor, and wires are ok
Fuel = good fuel pressure and operating injectors
Although to check all these items you will need tools and a service manual.

i think it might be the teeth on the starter, my dumb friend has driven it several times and he has a problem with terning the key when the car is running

when i pulled it into the shop i tried to push start it, the motor turned over a little bit but it didnt start.... so i pulled the starter the teeth look like there a little worn down ill trake it to napa tomorrow and bench test it
wow i feel like an idiot lol...got the new starter in terned the key and i got the same result as i did with the old starter...so upon further inspection i found out why the motor still wont tern over... the timing belt was missing about 30 teeth on the bottom of the belt where you couldn't see
Well that is really no good!!! Might want to investigate if there is a reason why there is missing teeth. Or just worn out. But GL with it, and i hope a new belt fixes it!

ya i got it all checked out i dont think i messed the valves up and the crank shaft does move i just new to get the new belt on and see if there is another problem or if it was just an old belt
ok im having some more problems getting the timing belt on.... i cant get that bottom pule off i need to know if its held on by a bolt or if it is presser pushed on
