Default i need help with my 91 si cluster!

well i bought a 91 civic hb dx it had a 88 - 89 si cluster in it.nothing worked so i bought an 90 - 91 si cluster and only thing that works is the lights in it when i turn it on. could it be because the person i bought it off of messed up the wiring? there was only two plugs i plugged in.if anyone wants to try and help, please do so.

88-89 clusters are differnt from 90-91 clusters. 90-91 clusters have a white box on the back for a blue clip to plug into. 88-89 does not.

wtf? I think he wants an Si cluster

Op, You need a cluster that matches your year. 88-89 Si is what you need. You can sell the 90-91 Si cluster and buy an 88-89

beansandrice i have both 88-89 and 90-91 si clusters. my 91 hatchback when i bought it came with the 88-89 si cluster in it and it didnt work. so i went to pick up a 90-91 si cluster.only thing that works is the lights inside the cluster and hazards.i found a wiring diagram for both years 88-89 and 90-91 checked the wires in my hb they were correct with the 90-91.i even rewired it all and still didnt work, so im guessing its the wires.

88's can only use an 88' cluster as well as an 89' can only use an 89'. as far as 90-91's they're exactly the same. this is for factory wiring of course. u can wire up just about any cluster u like if u wanted to. just get the wiring diagrams and repin or cut n solder the plugs, etc...

yah.the diagram i found had 88-89 , 90-91 and the diagram for the 90-91 was exactly how mine was wired up so there isnt a reason for it not to work unless the wires are bad right? i even rewired it and still nothing...an i know this is gona be a stupid question but behind the speedometer that whole does anything go in there? i never messed with clusters before so i have no idea.

ya thats the speedo cable, its not a dumb question either, those years r cable driven, before the switched the vss to wire. there should be a a big black cable that runs to the back area of the cluster, it has like a plastic clip to hold it on, it is very noticeable. u could also look in ur engine bay for it to run out of the firewall n straight down into the back n on the top of the tranny, just look staright down by ur throttle body for it.

okay well its not really long but here i go.the wires that plug into the cluster, i followed those threw to under the dash.they plug into i think the fuse box or by it? i forgot, but i unplugged those and rewired them, plugged them back in, then plugged the cluster back up and its works fine now.lol
