Frams are very evil.. I have seen *RUST* on the bottoms of them before.

edit: PS I run Bosch. ..old habit from my VW owning days. Now that I see there are some identical (and cheaper) filters i might switch

Thanks for posting this link.

I have used Castrol GTX religiously for 25 years and swear by it. If you are currently using Mobil 1 synthetic and are not having any oil consumption then I would stick with that. I also have been using Fram oil filters because that's what was easiest to find................not any more after reading that article.

I have used DuraLube in a couple high mile motors with satisfactory results but about 2 days after putting Slick 50 in my 156K Toyota 4WD it lost a rod bearing. Can't say it was the Slick 50 as I had beat that motor pretty hard and it had a noise in it when new that they never identified but........... I would think real hard before I used it again.

As for oil and filter change. With that much miles, just use any regular 10W-30 oil and get the Honda factory filter. Honda factory filter is good enough. I have been owning 2 Hondas so far and that's all I use for the oil filter.

I was suprised mostly at how the Honda filters are big pieces of **** unless you import one from Japan. Most people brag thats all they run.. heh well

Oil filter whether it's from Japan or US doesn't make much of a different. I wouldn't worry about all that. I had my Civic pass 155,000 miles with no problems at all and I used the factory US Honda oil filter. As long you are using a good oil, change it on time, and a proper tune up, a Honda will last you forever.

this is true. however due to the finicky and whisical nature of your younger Honda owner (and modifier in most cases) good enough is never enough.

case in point: Most over analyzed thread ever

Oh, and the 88 Montero filters fit our cars exactly... but allows for higher oil flow than standard filters for our cars. It helps clear up a bottleneck. Just FYI.

93 Accord with 246,000 miles on it, I used either Castrol or Mobile 5w-30 winter and summer. I've always used the Honda Oil filter. I think the mileage is a good sign of what is the best combo. I really think that synthetics are a bit of a waste of money. I would have spent soo much more on oil changes than buying the dino oil.
