so heres the story..

car was driving fine ever since i did the swap over the summer with no problems with starting or anything.. get in it the other day and notice it turned over but almost like the battery was dying, next time i started the car it was more noticeable, finally last time i tried to start it that day it did nothing but click.. so i jumped the car and it started fine but i noticed a weird almost electrical humming while driving and every time i hit the brakes the clock, radio, cluster lights, and headlights dimmed or would click off for a second.

so i think that my alternator is bad.. get in the car the next day and try to start it.. bam first try it starts like i just put a brand new battery in there.. drive it around for like 6 days with no problems with starting or lights dimming.. then out of nowhere it does it again, just wont start all it does is click.. sooo i let the car sit for like a week without touching it, go out and try to start it yesterday and it starts fine, drive it for like 5 minutes turn it off, then i try to start it again and it starts fine but it started making that humming noise again.. turn it off and try to start it again and nothing but clicks.. ive checked the grounds and there all connected and none are corroded..

So basically im stumped as to what the problem could be, im pretty sure its a loose or bad ground, i just cant figure out which one it could be

any suggestions would be appreciated

I don't think it would be the alternator if you can let the car sit for a week and it starts up like you just put a fresh battery in it. How old is the battery? Check the acid levels in it.

 

Sounds like you have checked everything.... it sounds like it could be the battery or alternator... i'm batteling a smilar problem... my car starts every time but my lights dim....it could be that the alternator works fine sometimes but not as efficiently all the time? it takes driving to get one to chagre, just sitting there on idle dosen't chagre the battery, especially after 5 min... or you battery could be bad and doesn't hold a charge? I'm taking mine to firend that is amazing with cars to diagnose the problem... I will update with what he finds out, just like you i'm lost and have check everything...

 

well finally figured it all out.. somehow one of the battery posts cracked at the base and it wasn't getting a full connection to the battery which is why it would start randomly but then if i hit a bump it would lose power causing my lights to dim and the car to make that weird noise - this also shorted out my alternator which is the reason why even when i would drive it after it started it wasn't charging my battery
