Is ACT dropping their socks???
There use to be a time when I thought that ACT produced the best clutch and pressure plate combo period! That time is now gone as this has been the 4th...that is right, the 4th ACT clutch that I have been through in less than a year and 5000 klms. Between that period they have seen 5 track days and no more than 4500 rpms on the street peroid, on my 249whp NA GSR. My two friends have also shared exact experiences with the ACT 6 puck sprung clutches within the past year also. Now before you guys rant about mismatching clutches with different PP's, I am using a brand new ACT HD pressure plate that I got with the first clutch. I am also using an ACT streetlite Flywheel. I just bought a Clutchmasters clutch so we will see how that goes. Here are the pics.

I was never a fan of ACT clutches, their PP's are way too stiff and their disc chew up flywheels rather quickly.
Good luck with the Clutchmasters clutch

so funny, seems like no matter what brand you look up you find bad experience. I know guys with 30k miles on F1 ebay clutches in 220whp NA applications that still run great.
Ya they suck!! I went through 3 of them, friction pads were shot after one event, spring came out once, and 3 rivets busted off on one of my pressure plates. Called them and they wouldnt do a damn thing but blame me. Switched to another brand and havent had a problem.
wow this is interesting. I had a full-face 2600 in my talon at around 300whp and that thing took a sh*t ton of abuse (countless awd launches). never had any problems and the clutch outlasted the car. this was about 4-5 years ago so im not sure if they've changed anything since then in quality control, materials, etc. good info regardless. i think i'm gonna try clutchmasters next. they always seem to get good reviews.
wow..ive had my act 6 puck since 2006...its been on for almost 30k miles...same clutch on an stock ls then on bolt on gsr and the gsr turbo at almost 300whp...and the engine died 1st..planning on using it when i drop another engine on the car..
competition clutch ftw.....
from what i have seen act and comp clutch blow the corners off the 4 puck disks pretty bad, the 6pucks hold together much better. the only pucked disk i have never trashed in a short period of time is the spec disk in my s2000.
from what i can gather act pucks have more metal in them than others, spec has more carbon.
I have never had a problem getting something that broke fixed by ACT, though the pucks busting up like that is from too much heat, usually caused by slipping.. either too much power for what you have or you arent driving it right. those clutches are not designed for daily driving.

BS...I had a Clutchmaster 4 puck sprung disk that I harassed every weekend for 6 months straight and still drove on it every single day for 18 months before it gave out. It also didn't eat out the pads like the ACT, it had even wear.
just an fyi, i am guessing most company won't warranty the unsprung discs though if they are used on the street. The splines on my Clutchmasters 6 puck unsprung disc wore out after 1 year and when I called CM and they told me to pay for the repairs.
I too am a victim of an ACT failure. I didn't make as much power or racing it all the time.
Pictures of the carnage.

The spring that went.

The other two that were about to go.

I see competition clutch and Clutchmaster mentioned. What about SPEC and Action?
I am currently running an Action 1MD, the holding grip is great. Still getting use to the ON OFF feeling.

I once used the ACT Performance Street Disc when I was at 220whp and the clutch was completely done after one night at the dragstrip lol.
