gsr tranny problems
I have a freshly rebuilt gsr tranny mated to my ls and love it, but today without warning it started acting weird. I got the tranny from a guy I somewhat regularly do business with, he bought it with a bad casing, put a new casing on it and replaced all the bearings and sold it to me. I have only driven on the tranny for a couple hundred miles and till today I had no problems which is why im stumped. I was driving on the highway for a change cause most of my driving is city, and I havent really taken it on the open road yet, well anyway I was cruising in 5th and it suddenly popped out of gear, so I put it back into gear and it just kept doing it, I tried holding it in gear and I could feel it trying to push out of gear again. I got off the highway and went to put it in 1st at a stop light and it wouldnt budge, I finally jammed it into gear and it went, I drove the car for another hour or 2 with it still doing both these things and then took it home and parked it. All other gears still seem to be fully functional, but I have no idea where to start with what the problem could be. Im not convinced its something internal with the tranny, is it possible the throwout bearing could cause these problems so suddenly? Im really not trying to buy another tranny unless I absolutely have to, any input with this is appreciated. BTW I have not beat the everloving crap out of it either, ive only taken it to redline maybe 3 times and redline on an ls is only around 7k, so that should be nothing for this gsr tranny to take.
For your tranny to pop out of gear is due to a bad syncro. Trouble getting into gear could be caused my not enough pressure on the Pressure plate, bad master cylinder, slave cylinder or low tranny fluid. Are you sure the dude didnt jip you off?
This is probably not going to fix it, but im going to start off with changing the tranny fluid to synchromesh, I think it may be low on fluid. If that doesnt fix the problem, I would lean more toward installation error of the clutch than the tranny itself, that might just be wishful thinking.
How does your clutch pedal feel? and again the pressure plate and clutch has nothing to do with it popping out of gear. If the clutch was bad it would have other symptoms.
