Default GSR -P0302 and P1399 DTC

I've got a 97' GSR with these codes. recently did the head gasket. When Vtec engages it seems to take for ever to shift to the next gear. I feel a fat power loss. Idles fine, during wide open throttle feels sluggish. When i did the head gasket I obviously took the head off but do you think that maybe when i set the cams in. I missed a tooth?? would that really make a difference? any suggestions??

Thanks,
Joey

Those look like Misfire Codes, 0302 being a misfire on cylinder 2 and 1399 being "Manufactures control Ignition system OR Misfire"

Yeap timing being off by a tooth affects the performance of a motor.

Yep, go back and check your timing.

Ya, I think every tooth is ~4.5 degrees (correct me if I'm wrong). An easy way to check the timing is to set your crank to TDC (align marks) then take your valve cover off. The two Cam Gears have arrows that should be pointing straight UP. If one of them isn't, then you missed a tooth.

in the worst case u might bent the valve when u miss alight the timing, but first check compression on # 2 cyl see if u have enough compression. or swap plug n coil to difference cyl see if still miss on # 2
