Hey guys, got several of issues.. My girlfriend drove her car into a flood (go figure) and it stalled out & died. Her car is a 1997 Civic Sedan, bone stock to the core. Nothing has ever been modified. During the flood, the car died out and wouldnt start back up until the tow truck guy came and put it on his bed. Then once the car got to my garage, started it up a ton of water starting spewing out of the tail pipe.

So I replaced the TPS sensor, BOTH o2 sensors, and got a brand new air filter. The car holds and idle perfectly fine now, shifts like butter and runs like a breeze.

I was iffy about smogging it because a lot of white smoke is coming out of the tail pipe (I have not been driving the car for 2 - 3 months now) and I took it around the block to break it back in. I noticed that the temperature gauge does not get too high anymore, and my coolant was low so I filled it up.

I went to go smog it, let it warm up for about an hour, and as they were testing the car it blew out white smoke (not too much but a large noticable amonut) the smoke was on and off.

Any ideas?

 

If you are still loosing coolant could be a head gasket.

 

Check your oil - do you have a nice "milkshake" look?

 

yeah, there is no coolant in my oil. the headgasket was recently replaced awhile back so it is in good shape still.

 

do a compression test. if she sucked in a bunch of water it is possible that the head could have warped when ya'll were trying to start it... if it didn't bend any rods that is... just a thought.

 

yeah its alittle to late to be running a compression test, ill do one in tommarow afternoon. any other advice? it wasnt smoking like this until i changed the o2 sensors and a new tps sensor.

 

If she sucked down water the motor could have a bent rod or some trashed valves or a blown headgasket. Water does not compress so something has got to give. Checking compression is definitely the best step.

 

hopefully the stock snorkle saved it because if it sucked in water the motor could be trashed.. cross ur fingers...
